Our Day with Grow Some Good & Surfrider Foundation
At KaiAloha Supply, our mission is rooted in a deep love for the ocean and a commitment to the next generation of its stewards. This past week, that mission brought our Kihei team inland to join an Ocean Friendly Gardens Workday, a powerful collaboration between Grow Some Good and the Surfrider Foundation. We believe that being true stewards of the sea requires us to be caretakers of the land that feeds into it, ensuring our "Ocean Love" begins long before the water hits the sand.
Lessons from the Soil

The day was an immersive experience where our team stepped away from the storefront to get their hands in the dirt for a cause that impacts all of us. We spent the morning learning about the vital role of native and canoe crops, which are essential for maintaining a balanced ecosystem and preventing harmful runoff from reaching our coral reefs. Kihei store manager, Makena Carter (first image, leftmost), recalls that a highlight of the workday was the special opportunity to plant a mango tree. This gesture represents our long-term investment in the island’s health and the future of our local environment (Photos courtesy of Makena Carter).
Community in Action

What makes this project truly special is the spirit of generosity at its core, as the food grown in this garden is harvested and given directly back to the community. Seeing this cycle of care in action was incredibly rewarding and reminded us of our shared kuleana to look out for our neighbors. By supporting sustainable gardening practices, we are helping to ensure that our community stays nourished and our oceans stay clean for generations to come (Photo courtesy of Makena Carter).
