6 Weeks in the Dirt & Mud

At KaiAloha Supply, we believe your gear should be as resilient as the ocean and as enduring as the land. When we design our products, we don’t just test them in a lab— we put them out into the wild (Image courtesy of Madi Masek).

Six weeks ago, we kicked off a special partnership with the incredible team at Hawaii Land Trust (HILT). They do the vital, heavy-lifting work of protecting and restoring the ʻāina (land) across our islands, meaning their crew is out in the elements every single day. To support their mission, we donated a fleet of our premium Delux Hats and high-performance Rash Guards.

The HILT crew took our gear straight into the field for a grueling 6-week 'Āina Test Program, putting it to work through relentless sun, mud, saltwater, and heavy labor (like carrying heavy volcanic rock).

They just sent us their official 6-week field reports and photos, and we couldn’t be prouder of how our premium gear performed under pressure.

The 6-Week Field Notes: Real Gear, Real Mud

When you are spending long days working in coastal wetlands or restoring cultural landscapes, your gear can't just look good— it has to perform. Here is how our premium line held up over a month and a half of hard labor:

1. The Delux Hats: Ocean-Tested, Land-Approved

Our Delux line features a mix of specialized styles tailored for different environments— ranging from water-resistant fabrics and floating brims designed for the sea, to eco-conscious styles made from recycled materials for a lighter footprint (Image courtesy of Madi Masek). The HILT team put those exact specs to the test on land and in the sea:

"The hat and rash guard were great for working on the land! They kept me cool and shaded while I worked in the sun and mud... I took the hat to a beach day and tested the floating in the water - it did float. I liked how it was not dripping with water when I picked it back up to put on my head."

"I really like the hat! It’s well made and keeps its shape. It fits well, too... The breathable holes without the warm mesh thing is top tier."

2. Premium Rash Guards: Built to Protect

When carrying heavy rocks and working around abrasive brush, skin protection is everything. Our rash guards feature UPF 50+ sun protection and durable 4-way stretch fabric (Image courtesy of Madi Masek). Over the course of six weeks, the softness and durability blew the crew away:

"Firstly, what stood out when putting the gear on, was how soft & high quality the materials are. But still really durable. Nothing was shortcut in the design detail. It really is made for active people. Extra bonus - I LOVE the color of the rash guard too. Mahalo nui Kai Aloha."

"Loved the shirt. Helped a lot with the sweat and not being burnt by the sun or wind. The shirt also helped protect my arms and chest while carrying rocks."

Real Feedback Makes Better Gear

Part of what makes a 6-week field test so valuable to us at KaiAloha Supply is seeing how our gear adapts to real, everyday life (Image courtesy of Madi Masek).

Getting the team's notes allowed us to see just how versatile these pieces truly are. We loved hearing how the lightweight, breathable fit of the rash guards was perfect for staying cool and protected during breezy land-work and heavy labor. And while the white sun hoodies definitely earned some badges of honor in the form of field mud and dirt stains, it just proved how much hard work went into those six weeks!

The true testament to versatile gear? One crew member even took their sun hoodie straight from a week of working on the land to the baseball field over the weekend, proving it keeps you cool and shielded whether you're restoring a watershed or umpiring a game.

Mahalo Nui, Hawaii Land Trust!

We want to send a massive mahalo to the entire crew at Hawaii Land Trust for putting our Delux line through its paces, and more importantly, for the incredible work they do every day to preserve Hawaii (Image courtesy of Madi Masek).

Six weeks of mud and sweat proved what we always say: KaiAloha gear is built to last. We look forward to many more collaborations protecting the land and enjoying the sea together!
