Restoring the Beauty of Mākaha Beach

On March 28, 2026, the spirit of aloha ʻāina was on full display at Mākaha Beach. Following recent storms that impacted our coastlines, the community responded with a record-breaking show of support, proving that no task is too great when tackled together.

A Historic Turnout

Organized by the Hoʻomaʻa Foundation and supported by Nā Kama Kai, the event drew an incredible crowd. Over 2,000 volunteers (including local celebrities and dedicated residents) descended on the shore to restore the beach to its natural state  (Photo courtesy of Samantha Danner).

As Duane DeSoto, founder of Nā Kama Kai, shared:

“That is the most people I’ve ever seen on Mākaha Beach at one time. It was amazing how everyone came together to aloha ʻāina.”

Our Oʻahu team was proud to be part of the movement. Sam (Store Manager, Hilton Hawaiian Village; left) and Shaylie (Ala Moana; right) represented KaiAloha Supply, rolling up their sleeves alongside their neighbors (Photo courtesy of Samantha Danner).

"It was a super cool event and a massive community effort," Sam shared. "The beach was almost completely clean after the first two hours. I am so happy Shaylie and I were able to help! Mākaha Beach is beautiful again."

The Impact: ʻAʻohe hana nui ke alu ʻia

The efficiency of the collective was staggering. What could have taken days of work was accomplished in a single morning. By the two-hour mark, the shoreline was transformed, leaving the sand pristine and the community's heart full (Photo courtesy of Samantha Danner).

This event served as a powerful reminder of the Hawaiian proverb: “ʻAʻohe hana nui ke alu ʻia”— No work is too big when done together by all. To our island ʻohana who have been impacted by the recent storms, we are holding you in our thoughts and prayers. It is a powerful reminder that when our community comes together, we can create real change and care for the ʻāina that sustains us.
